About Today Readings

Wednesday in Holy Week. Isaiah 50:4-9. Lord, in your great love, answer me – Psalm 68(69):8-10, 21-22, 31, 33-34. Matthew 26:14-25.

The evil spirit often attacks at the weak point

As keeper of the common purse, Judas had been dealing with money for the three years he had been with Jesus. He had been aware of the antagonism of the authorities, their awareness of Jesus’ influence on the people and their desperation to be rid of him. Had Judas been unprepared for the subtle shift in deciding where his own particular treasure was?

In the end, did Judas repent for his action? We will never know – only God was privy to his heart at that moment. Judas’ story can prompt us to search our heart to see where we place the various treasures in our life. Lord, may I be alert and prepared for the attacks of the evil spirit, turning always to you for help.
