2 Samuel 24:2, 8-17. Lord, forgive the wrong I have done – Ps 31(32):1-2, 5-7. Mark 6:1-6.
Adventure of faith
We should take time to read the full story of King David, which spans many chapters of the Bible. He is one of the central figures in our story of faith and his tale is full of the most extraordinary twists and turns. David embodies something that we all experience. The most ordinary and fallible person can be called to the most extraordinary adventure of faith. Like all of us, he has feet of clay. As for all of us, the Lord doesn’t let that get in the way of a sacred purpose. Remember that St Paul wrote, ‘the spirit comes to help us in our weakness’.
Today’s episode finds David in his administration mode. He wants to conduct a census of all the people, a big job. Even then, David needs God’s help and forgiveness. These days, every job involves a lot of documentation and compliance. Do we expect God to be at work in such mundane things? The answer is yes.
