Commend ourselves to God’s grace
As the Easter season is drawing to its finale, we might ask ourselves how the risen Jesus has made a difference to our lives in the last few weeks. We experience Easter a little differently every year, depending on what is happening in our lives. You might say that the Lord always meets us on our road to Emmaus, but Emmaus might lie in a different direction from one year to another. In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that ‘I have sent them into the world’. He spoke these words on the night before he died, knowing that his friends would miss him and that what we call ‘the world’ can be a challenging place. St Paul also speaks about ‘fierce wolves’ whose destructive anger can undermine our peace and joy. He commends his community to God. Perhaps we too can commend ourselves daily to God’s grace.
