St Casimir
Jeremiah 18:18-20. Save me, O Lord, in your steadfast love – Ps 30(31):5-6, 14-16. Matthew 20:17-28.
Lord, help me to seek your will
On this day, we remember that God protects the innocent and that true greatness is found in humble service. St Casimir lived a life of quiet devotion, often going unrewarded and unrecognised, reminding us that following God’s call does not always bring external validation.
In our modern lives, humility calls us to serve faithfully even when it feels unnoticed. This might mean mentoring a junior colleague, supporting a friend through a difficult time without expecting thanks, or volunteering for parish ministries without being in the spotlight. When recognition is absent, we can take comfort that God sees our efforts and can sustain us through prayer, reflection, or sharing with trusted companions. Living out humility like this allows us to experience the deeper joy of serving for God’s sake rather than for worldly praise. As we reflect on this reading, we pray: Lord, teach me to serve with a humble heart, seeking your will rather than my own glory.
