About Today Readings

St Boniface

2 Timothy 1:1-3, 6-12. To you, O Lord, I lift up my eyes – Psalm 122(123):1-2. Mark 12:18-27.

God is God of the Living

Vida: That’s a strange story the Sadducees told, Jesus, but it echoed Sarah’s experience in the Scriptures, didn’t it? The Sadducees had a point, though, surely. When the woman died and went to heaven, whose bride could she be? Wasn’t that a real problem?

Jesus: The Sadducees only told the story to embarrass me, Vida. They didn’t care about how I answered it. Nor were they interested in the everlasting life that would come through my preaching and life. Of course, that life is not exactly like our present one. It is unimaginable. But nothing of value in our bodily lives, relationships and experience will be lost. Isn’t that what you believe?

Vida: I don’t think very much about it, Jesus. Should I?

Jesus: Faith is important, but perhaps it is less like the scenery you look at and more like the carriage that you travel in. Travel well, Vida.
