About Today Readings

Acts 15:1-6. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord – Psalm 121(122):1-5. John 15:1-8.

They were to discuss the problem with the apostles and the elders

How familiar are the dynamics in this reading! Fierce arguments about the Church’s teachings; when it’s discovered that Gentiles had turned to God; apostles and elders meeting together to consider the questions. And we are still doing this. The vigour comes out of our good intentions, but we continually need to return to the warmth of the source. Paul and Barnabas were passionate about freeing people from the restrictions of the MosaicJe law, and embracing the gentleness of Jesus’ unconditional love. And we are still negotiating that path between the law and love. Jesus please help us to trust in your love and acceptance of us, and to approach the other as we would want you to approach us.
