Hosea 10:1-3, 7-8, 12. Seek always the face of the Lord – Ps 104(105):2-7. Matthew 10:1-7.
Fullness of life
In today’s Gospel are listed the names of the twelve disciples whom Jesus commissions to go and heal people in body, mind and spirit. The names of these twelve remind us that Jesus’ ministry occurs in history and in relationship. The Son takes on a human nature and enters into history – our human history. Jesus sends the disciples first, as we hear today, to the lost of Israel. Through healing the disciples are to offer the fullness of life that comes through relationship with God.
By the conclusion of Jesus’ earthly ministry, expressed on the Cross and confirmed in the Resurrection, this offer of life is made to all people. How is Jesus offering me fullness of life today? Who are his disciples offering that new life to me?
