We are building on God’s foundation

Paul’s metaphor of him as the expert builder laying the foundation of Christ for us to build on gives us a picture easy to imagine. I’m not very good at practical tasks, so the line ‘but each one must be careful how he builds’ evoked classroom memories of art or sewing classes where the result looked anything but carefully built. But it is us Paul is talking about. Jesus is our foundation. We often hear the phrase ‘take care’, which is now a familiar part of goodbyes, and we really need to take care. What are we building on the foundation Our Lord has laid in us? Is there space for the Holy Spirit? How are we drawing on years of information, inspiration, growth through adversity and prayer, to strengthen and build the Christian that I am? It is good to have years to look back on, to notice the growth times, to see how we came through in working to complete the building. Lord, you have given us a strong and reliable foundation in you, bless me with all I need to complete the work.
