Let your faith shine
Easter is part of every day for every Christian. In today’s Gospel, Jesus lets his friends know that belief means work. Faith is a gift, but it is a gift we must work to protect and develop. After the miracle of the loaves and fishes, the people have realised that Jesus is unique. But they are still like bees in a bottle, crisscrossing the lake, hoping to find security. They ask where he was. Jesus effectively turns the question around and asks them where they really are. Instead of running around in circles, they need to stop and think about what the signs might mean. Stephen, whose story we hear in the first reading, is the opposite. He has threatened powerful people. There is a ferment of anger, jealousy and accusation around him. Yet he has reached a point of stillness and surrender. His face shines like that of an angel. Please God, our Easter faith shines too.
