Be prepared
This is the last day of this liturgical year, and the readings offer us different understandings of the end. How is it to happen? Will we be ready? Have we done enough in our earthly lives to earn a place in heaven? While these are common anxieties, what really matters is that we give to God all that we can in prayer and action. To be one of the holy ones coming into God’s presence is a core desire, to be able to sing and pray eternally in glory is our destination. Daniel describes great destruction and suffering that leads to the end, and yet through all of it there will be those who become saints of the Most High. Luke extols us to be ready for the Son of Man in his glory and ready to endure whatever will come. There is no easy way.
