Let us share our love and joy
One of the criticisms that people of antiquity had about early Christians was their demeanour – the joy and laughter they displayed when together in public. CS Lewis and other writers have spoken of the deep inner happiness and peace that comes from feeling loved by God, and seeing the world through those loving eyes.
It can be tempting to keep that love bottled up, for fear of judgment by others, but in today’s Gospel Jesus reminds us that it’s OK to feel and share your joy and happiness in our existence, even as others might focus on doom and gloom. Indeed, there’s an imperative in it for it’s through our own joy in salvation that others might also discover God.
We pray today that we might be encouraged to share our measure of love and joy with others, such that all of us might receive back in abundance that measure from God.
