Isaiah 49:1-6. I will sing of your salvation – Psalm 70(71):1-6, 15, 17. John 13:21-33, 36-38.
God is our rock, our stronghold, our refuge
In the beautiful reading from Isaiah, we are introduced to the Servant of the Lord. This image is carried forward and we understand that this is the one who will save God’s people. Is it only the Israelites who will be saved? Or will this servant bring the whole of creation back to God? The knowledge that God formed all humankind in the womb also acknowledges that this is the reason why we have to return to God. Our lives must lead us back to our origin. The psalm proclaims that God is our rock, our stronghold, our refuge. Let us fully absorb that and be at peace with that understanding. We cannot hide from God, we cannot hide our imperfections, we can only return with an open heart and a will to be one with God. For most of us it takes a long time to learn that and to know where we are going.
